“Let mutual love continue.  Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews13:1-3

As Christmas approaches, I can’t help but think about ‘angels’ or those messengers from the Beloved revealing Divine Presence, call, and hospitality. It’s powerful to hear ways in which people touch one another like the gentle caring man who tended Marge McConn’s body on the morning she died, all the while quietly singing Amazing Grace and other hymns. I imagine she loved it! Her daughters did! Together they ALL sang “This Little Light of Mine” as the sun rose and her body was carried out. What a simple yet powerful gesture. I don’t think that memory will ever be forgotten. Nor will the many ways in which ‘angels’ have been at work here at CLC. Some gave abundantly to Adopt a Family; others donated money so gift cards could be purchased for the children and the homeless who come to the community breakfast. Then there was the annual Budget Meeting where you were asked to consider, in conjunction with Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, hosting the homeless on rainy days this Winter in the FOG house. You went one step further: you voted to host the Rainy Day Project on site in the West Wing when possible in order to provide a comfortable and warm respite. What a gift this congregation continues to be in the name of Jesus providing hospitality, mercy, and love! As you are ‘angels’ for those in need, you too will experience the ‘angel in our midst’ in each stranger who often becomes a friend, no matter how brief the encounter. It’s never a one way street!

A special thank you to our staff who continue to give above and beyond what is ever asked of them. We are so blessed by their dedication, wisdom, and expertise. We have been masterfully served! I want to especially thank Marian Lacey who has served as our office administrator for over 4 years! What a ‘jack of all trades’ and ‘angel’ she has been for us through the years. I’m very grateful to all our staff. We wouldn’t be who we are without them! I’d also like to thank our council, Teresa Adam, Walter Rau, Bill Strom, Michelle Runge, and Suzanne Mau for the many ways they have served. Much has been happening of late and you all have made the difference! Thank you. May God bless us all this holy season!
