Remembering Marlene Carder

7/6/2018

Picture
Dear Marlene Vita Carder who married Willie Anderson on September 16, 2017 died at home this week on the evening of July 4th, 2018. She had longtime health issues and was living life as fully as possible.  She and Willie knew it could happen any moment, and when it did, she went very quickly. As Willie lovingly stated the day she finally accepted his marriage proposal, “Whether it’s 10 days or 10 years, I just want to be with you.”

No matter when I saw them, whether in church, at home, at some event, or in the hospital, they made each other laugh and often held hands.  Below they are at the wedding of Mary Ann and Bruce Johnson. It’s been an honor and treasure to know this lovely sister in faith. I enjoyed all our visits and though I would have loved to have had many more, the love we hold in our hearts for her will live on. Willie was such a wise man to scoop her up and encourage them to enjoy life together in marriage no matter how long or short!! I was just telling visiting family some of their story this   holiday. It’s such a story of hope, encouragement, and joy. Willie wanted to have ‘Get Me to the Church On Time” as prelude for their wedding. They then just HAD to enter the church together while the song “On The Street that You Live” played, because they met as neighbors after both were widowed. Too cute! Marlene wanted the song Because played before their vows because she could still remember the first time she ever heard it sung by Placido Domingo. It brought tears to her eyes and she had to stop the car to  listen. It was one of the most beautiful things she had ever heard.

Marlene, we will miss you very much! Willie, our hearts and prayers go out to you!! You both were a model of  faith, courage, and the joy of living and loving fully! I delight you found each other, and were able to laugh, love, support one another, and share the time you did, no matter how brief. Your care and love for each other was a sign of hope for us. Thank you.

It was a blessing to celebrate Marlene’s life on Tuesday, July 10, 2018.  Thank you to all who attended.  She is to be buried at Skylawn Funeral Home.
